The Spa Utopia Group opened the doors of its first Spa in February 2001 in Langley BC. Today it consists of three Spas, and will have two Academies open in June 2006. The three Spas in Langley, North Vancouver and the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver, are 10,500 square feet, 13,000 square feet, and 12,000 square feet respectively, and employ over 300 people.

The Academies are in Vancouver and Abbotsford, and consist of Hair and Esthetics in Abbotsford, and Hair, Esthetics and Massage Therapy in Vancouver. They will employ about 20 people, with many part time instructors.

The parent company is approximately 80% owned by four families with equal shareholdings. Two of these families are actively engaged in operating and managing the business. Approximately 20% of the shares are owned by other investors, including a good number of employees who have participated in an Employee Share Ownership Plan, and some senior management who have invested directly in the company.

Since opening Spa Utopia at the Pan Pacific, the Company has been inundated with opportunities and invitations to open new spas, in BC, other parts of Canada, the USA, and in Asia. A number of these have been offered as fully funded by the party making the invitation, and one even offered five years free rent! However at this time we have set the course to consolidate on our recent expansion into the Academies, and have not accepted any of the invitations. The major thing to note is that the company has excellent branding and is being well recognized both locally and internationally.
